Growing Turkeys with optimal flock performance requires expertize and the right equipment that is correctly installed to work together and communicates with eachother in the turkeyhouse. In order to achieve the commecrial goals with turkeys like Desired Growthrate,Uniformity, Positive Feed Conversion Ratio (FCR), Liveability and high Meat Yield, farmers need to understand the bird’s requirements, potential and which equipment to use that best meets the needs of their particular operation.
The Turkeys living environment needs to be flexible and easily adjustible to meet the living requirements of the bird that changes from day 1 as a bird reach to the target live weight of the bird.
The turkeyhouse should provide chicks for the first few days a comfortable and warmer environment to let the turkeys easily adapt to the new environment (from Hatchery to turkeyhouse). Using the right program with minimum air ventilation, right temperature, lighting, watering and feeding ensures that birds establish an early healthy feeding and drinking behaviour. During the 1st stadium the birds also get prepared to the transition of the automated feeding systems.
As the turkey grow the living environment need to change radically in order to meet the new living requirements. The bird uses more energy and give out more heat. The primary objective is to keep the birds cool enough. Besides the temperature in this stadium the birds consume more feed, oxygen and produce waste gases and water vapour. The installed ventilation system must change its program to remove these waste gases from the house and deliver good air quality. The climate control system needs to cool the birds down to the comfortable temperature level. Padcooling and Nozzle systems are used in warm climate zones to cool down the birds. In areas with a cold climate the heating systems need to be adjusted with the right ventilation.
